Hope Legion 228 Last Post

IT IS WITH SADNESS THAT THE LEGION ADVISES YOU OF THE PASSING OF  WORLD WAR II VETERAN, MARJORIE HOUGHTON.

Marjorie was born October 24, 1922 and passed away on October 5, 2020, just shy of her 98th birthday.

She served with the RCAF as a wireless radio operator and was stationed in Nova Scotia during the war.

Our thoughts  and prayers go out to her family at this time.

March 1, 1919 – December 14, 2019
John Edward (Jack) Lawrence passed away peacefully at his home on December 14, 2019. He was born on March 1, 1919 in Hope BC where he lived his entire life, only leaving to serve his country in WW II.

There are few Canadians who deserve a birthday greeting from Queen Elizabeth as much as 100-year-old Jack Lawrence did.  Jack celebrated his centennial surrounded by his family and friends at the Legion.  He recounted a few of his memories from his past 100 years including becoming a prisoner of war and escaping from his captors with a handful of other Canadians in his camp.  After the war ended, he returned to Hope, worked briefly for the Kettle Valley Railroad, and then settled in for a long career at our Legion.  His secret to longevity was drinking the “water of life” (good whiskey).  R.I.P.
